Claude Code Training Newcastle
A classroom day on Claude Code in central Newcastle — built for the Hunter region's software engineers, industrial-automation teams, and University of Newcastle-adjacent technologists. Led by Rye Smith, Claude Ambassador for Australia. Bring your laptop, leave with agentic coding workflows you can apply to your Hamilton, Honeysuckle or Junction-based work on Monday morning.
A day of hands-on Claude Code — not slides
This workshop covers everything you need to integrate Claude Code into professional software development — from foundational prompting to advanced team-wide workflows. You write code on your own machine, Rye guides the room, and every exercise is built around real Newcastle dev team scenarios.
Three progressive modules
We move from Claude Code fundamentals to advanced workflows to scaling AI-assisted development across your team — all in one classroom day, with hands-on labs after every module.

Claude Code for Newcastle's industrial and university dev scene
Newcastle has reinvented itself faster than almost any Australian city of its size. The transformation of Honeysuckle from working dock to tech-and-lifestyle precinct, the maturing software cluster around the University of Newcastle, and the deep industrial-automation expertise tied to the Port of Newcastle and surrounding heavy industry have created an unusually well-balanced engineering market. Claude Code is finding traction across all three.
The Hunter's industrial-automation crews — teams writing PLC tooling, SCADA integrations, and the back-office software for mining, energy and logistics operations — are using Claude Code to handle the kind of unglamorous-but-critical code their businesses run on. Meanwhile, the SaaS and product teams around The Junction, Hamilton and Cooks Hill are stitching agentic workflows into customer-facing products. Whichever side of the city you're on, the workshop covers it.
We run the workshop in Newcastle CBD, walkable from Newcastle Interchange and a short drive from Hamilton, Merewether and Charlestown. The Hunter region's relative cost advantage versus Sydney means Newcastle developers tend to stay longer, build deeper expertise, and care more about tooling decisions — which makes for an excellent workshop room.
